Dodger in Pencil

Pencil - 2006

Another little sketch I did that I managed to scan and put on the internets. This is a picture of my horse, Dodger, where I took a picture and sketched it. I screwed up his eye and put it to far forward, but overall I don't think it's bad.

Racoon

Pencil - 2006

This is a sketch of a racoon obviously, the lines and shading are good, but there is something wrong with it. I can nitpick it a part because I see at least three things while I stare at it, but I still like it enough to submit it here.

Jessica

Pencil - 2006

This is a drawing of my niece I did for a portfolio assignment, it is not without its flaws but I rather like how it turned out. If you can't tell, she's blowing a bubble.

I will have to dig out the original to fix it one of these days so this is more apparent.

Mosquito

Mosquito - 2008

This is a mosquito I did for a homework assignment, I went online and found a picture of an Aedes aegypti and sketched it. The skin of the person he's biting looks like crap, but it is hard to draw skin that zoomed in. And I wanted the focus to be the mosquito.

Poptart

This is actually a drawing I did for a girl of her pet bunny Poptart. I'm not sure what kind of bunny he actually was, she just gave me a picture and I drew this.

I need to draw like this more often.

Iguana

I recently did this one out of sheer boredom. I just bought a set of Prismacolor pencils and I wanted to do something wiht them, so I found a picture of an Iguana and sketched it out at first. And then I put some color to it. The scan makes it look a little more purple then it actually is. But overall I like how it turned out.

Kalsan

Pencil - 2000

This is inspired by a fan fic I wrote with the help of some other people (you know, those stories where everyone writes a character and plays off each other, kind of like roleplaying but not). Well, I wrote for this character that was an elf. She was probably a bit much, but I did enjoy writing her and I tried to explain her strange powers, but anyway, she was inspired by my halloween costume for 1999 (which, by the way, is the blame for me joining the army). I named her Kalsanilasa. The name has now become an alias of sorts.

This chick looks nothing like me. And she has very big lips. I didn't draw people very much before this point. This was done mostly from my mind, with a few pictorial references. One of those pictures was that of Jennifer Aniston.

Bug

Graphite on Bristleboard - 1995

Yes, its a bug. And one of my first art assignments when I was a freshman in highschool. I always liked this bug, though I've definitely gotten better in regards to my shading (the shadow kind of irks me here). I love bugs, and this is such a cute little bug.

Gryphon

PrismaColor Pencil on Matboard - 1995

I was highly influenced by the DragonLance Series (© Wizards of the Coast), and this is actually an image in one of the first three novels, I forget which. I was learning how to use colored pencils and was relishing in the smooth use of Prisma Color. I have a ton of these pencils now, however I don't do a whole lot with them in regards to coloring. Which really is a shame.

I love fantasy creatures. I do a lot of things with them, mainly because of the fact that they technically don't exist and so you have creative freedom when drawing them.

A wolf taken from a picture in a nature magazine, I forget which. Drew this around freshman year in high school.

Bear and Tree

Graphite on Matboard - ~1997

I draw from pictures a lot. I swiped this sucker out of a national geographic. I have a lot of referance of animals from pictures (if you can't tell, I draw a lot of animals) and kind of doodled this one day. I liked the expression of the bear, kind of a non-chalant curious look on his face.

Self Studies, Take 2

Sketchbook - 2002

More sketch studies of myself for a figure drawing class. The teeth kind of look strange and gnarly, but once again, I always liked these sketches.

Self Studies

Sketchbook - 2002

These are some sketch studies of myself. If you knew me in real life, you would agree that they do look like me. This was right after I got my digital camera. I would take pictures of myself in various poses and sketch portions of my face. I loved how these came out.

KidStuff

Pencil - 1990-92

This is an example of the kind of art work I was doing circa age nine through eleven, they all came out of the same sketchbook that took me about two years to fill. I had a little case of cards that talked about all sorts of different animals and I would draw from those. So yeah, I had talent. But looking at this art work and how good I was then kind of disappoints me, because I should be better now.

Koalas

Pencil - 1990

I did these koalas way back when, I don't know exactly when. I was probably ten or so. Just another example of how depressing it is to look back and see how good I was then and knowing how good I could be now.

Well, I guess I'm not THAT bad, it's just the thought that I could be better that gets me sometimes. I just thought these koalas were cute too.
