Four Days and a Wake-Up

So we are starting to clear items now, things are gearing down, and I now have time to write about school now that it's pretty much over, and barring me doing something like get a DUI this weekend, that hat is mine. I get it tomorrow. We just got done with Combatives Level One Certification, and although they have to dumb it down a bit for Drill Sergeant School (they can't incapacitate half the school this close to graduation, our job is to teach, not fight in the MMAs). But it still included getting punched in the head several times while trying to attempt the clinch drill. My Drill Sergeant Leader really managed to land a solid punch straight to my face that knocked me senseless for about ten seconds and forced me to get my bearings back before I tried again. So because of Combatives, I can now make that claim of being both choked and punched in the head by a drill sergeant. In fact, five separate drill sergeants. Seeing as that's one of those things that isn't supposed to happen in basic and all, you know. But Drill Sergeants can apparently beat the crap out of each other, as long as they are doing it for Combatives. I would like to get Level Two Certified eventually, but I need to make sure I'm feeling competent with Level One first, and my sciatic nerve isn't on the fritz. Level Three would be cool too, but I don't think it will happen unless I go active duty. And then I would really expect to get the snot knocked out of me. Meanwhile, now that we're turning everything in, it's good to think that this school is all done and over with come next Tuesday. And then I hit the Trail by Thursday for at least two weeks. I hope my stupid hip has healed up enough by then so that I can at least run with the privates! |
